Celebrate Children's Book Week

Established in 1919, Children's Book Week is the longest-running literacy initiative in the country. Each year, books for young people and the joy of reading are feted for a full week with author and illustrator appearances, storytelling, parties, and other book-related events at schools, libraries, bookstores, museums, and homes from coast to coast!

Check out the official events happening around the country, or visit the Children's Book Week website for ideas on how to celebrate with your kids, at home or in the classroom.

Make sure you take a look at the list of the 2012 Children's Choice Award Winners, including our author and illustrator Scott Campbell for his book, Zombie in Love.

If you haven't already visited our new Facebook page for the Insight Kids titles, you should head over and take a peek. There are a lot of great books for young readers coming out in the coming months from each of our imprints, Mandala Publishing and Earth Aware Editions.

Honoring Mother Earth

Vedic Ecology
All around the world, classrooms and families are celebrating Earth Day in their own way. Here in California, students in elementary schools close enough to walk to the beach are heading there for an annual Beach Clean Up field trip, while students in the Midwest are planting trees.

Families are encouraged to carpool, ride their bikes or walk to school or work and the environment and recycling are topics of great discussion while art projects are created with materials that would normally end up in the trash.

Art galleries are cropping up in many design districts to highlight this recycled art concept, such as Re-Gallery in Solana Beach and the Eco-Logical Art Gallery in Los Angeles.

What do you have planned this weekend in honor of Earth Day?

Introducing Mandala Kids and Earth Aware Kids

Hector by Steve Barnes and Manu's Ark lead our new line of books for Mandala Kids and Earth Aware Kids this season, adding a wider range of appeal to our books for humanitarians and titles focusing on Eastern philosophy.

May is a few pages away (on our monthly calendar), but join us for a week-long celebration for Children's Book Week, May 7 - 13th and as we share our forthcoming children's titles, including Earth Notebook, Peaceable Forest, Agha the Eight-Mile Monster, and Kaliya Serpent King this fall.
